In order, Murphy has worn 49, 59, 00, 21, and most recently is switching back to 49 again. His decision to switch came after Canha signing with the organization was made official. Canha wore number 21 when he was with the Brewers in 2023 and with the Detroit Tigers last year.

Despite Canha signing a Minor League deal, it appears that he is primed for a role in the big leagues. Manager Pat Murphy told Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that they anticipate him being primarily a first baseman, designated hitter, and pinch-hitter.

After the 2023 season concluded, the Brewers traded Canha to the Detroit Tigers. His numbers dipped a little bit through 93 games as he had a .687 OPS and 97 OPS+. As a result, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants where he finished the year off strong.
Canha was a valuable asset to the Brewers in 2023, after they traded for him. Now that he is back, more of the same can be expected and it likely will not be long until he is added to the 40-man roster.
