Milwaukee Brewers hitting coordinator Brenton Del Chiaro recently joined The Call Up Podcast and discussed a wide variety of topics ranging from the organizations “you be you” hitting philosophy, evaluations of prospects Joey Wiemer, Jeferson Quero, Sal Frelick, Luis Lara, and much more. When specifically talking about Joey Wiemer he revealed that the outfielder will be showcasing some significant changes at the plate this spring.

Joey Wiemer reportedly has made significant changes at the plate and they will be on full display once the Milwaukee Brewers start spring training.

During the 2023 season rookie Joey Wiemer displayed what most call an unorthodox swing and approach at the plate. With lots of moving pieces his swing has a lot of power to it. Branching off of that he also displayed a tremendous ability to put on the brakes and stop his swing at pitches outside of the zone.
For Wiemer this is what he knows and has got him to the big leagues. However the talent level between major league baseball pitchers and those in the minor leagues is significant. As a result he had to recognize that he needed to make changes and according to Brenton Del Chiaro he has spent this off-season working on adjustments.
“Joey (Weimer) to his credit has been sending videos to Connor Dawson and our major league staff and there are some pretty impressive adjustments that he has made. But it took Joey learning that maybe I can’t do this at this level even though I had success at the minor league level. I’m seeing the most spin out of anyone in major league baseball and I’m not making the necessary adjustments, but I’m willing and I have the courage to make those adjustments.”
“And the adjustments that I’ve seen him make, the videos that he has shown some of our hitting coaches, is really cool to see and I think a lot of people are going to be impressed with it when he unveils it in spring training.”

Brenton Del Chario’s full interview can be found in the video below that includes a great summations of the Brewers organizational physiology when it comes to hitting as well as more in depth discussions regarding some of the upcoming players in Milwaukee’s system.
