The Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees will play a three game series in the Bronx this weekend. On one end the 77-62 Brewers are trying to fend off the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central division standings and on the other side the 70-69 Yankee’s find themselves last in the division and with a 0.9% chance of making the playoffs.
Despite both teams being on opposite ends of the spectrum, the Brewers should not overlook the Yankees this weekend. Here are three reasons why.
Three reasons why the Milwaukee Brewers should not overlook the New York Yankees.
- The Yankees are undefeated in the month of September
New York is off to a 5-0 start this month that includes sweeping the Houston Astros and taking the first two games of a three game set against the Detroit Tigers. If you go back a bit further they have won eight out of their last nine games. Unlike the Brewers the Yankees do not have an off day on Thursday, September 7 and they will wrap up that Tigers series.
- New York’s 2.45 team ERA is the best in the league over the past 15 days
The Yankees currently have Luis Severino and Michael King lined up to face the Brewers. Severino has a 2.04 ERA over his last three starts and King has a 0.77 ERA during that time as well. In the bullpen Wandy Peralta has been excellent (1.93 ERA in seven appearances) and Jonathan Loaisigia has not surrendered an earned run in his 12 games since returning from the IL.
- Home runs are starting to fly for the Yankees
Over the last 15 days the Yankees have hit 31 home runs. This is tied for the most in the league. Aaron Judge and DJ LeMahieu both have seven a piece and the emergence of Jasson Dominguez has sparked this team. Expect a lot of baseball to fly over the wall in this series.
