Spring training has arrived and Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy’s first thought is Bob Uecker who he said will be honored well this new season.
The long-time and legendary broadcaster died on January 16 this year after a battle with cancer and the organization continuously honors his legacy and commitment to the Brewers community where he served as a play-by-play announcer for 53 years.
The tribute will continue in the fresh season and Murphy said that every pitch will be dedicated to him.
“We gave a lot of credit to our losses,” Murphy told Fox6 News Milwaukee when asked about his first message to the team when they gathered for Spring Training.
“We lost a great one in Bob Uecker and we know that will still be with us. He’s a legend and legends never die. I think he will be part of every pitch.”
Before the Fox News appearance, Brewers released a footage of Murphy’s message to his players inside the locker room.
“That loss was of a guy who was authentic, who made the choice to stick with the Brewers when he could’ve left many, many times.”
Milwaukee Brewers pouring tribute for Uecker
The 2025 season will sound and look different for Brewers fans as this will be the first time that they will not have their beloved Uecker to start the season.
One main gesture that team did for Uecker is designing a new Brewers jersey with a patch dedicated to the broadcaster.
“Ueck was a great friend to all of us. He was a fixture at the ballpark and in our lives,” Brewers president of business operations Rick Schlesinger said in a statement.
“We cannot fill the hole that his absence has created, but the jersey patch will be a way to honor his memory whenever we take the field.”
Brewers will take to the field for their first spring training game of the 2025 season on February 22 against the Cincinnati Reds.
MLB Opening Day is on March 27.
