Milwaukee Brewers pitchers and catchers are in camp to begin their preparations for the upcoming season. Among that group is a pair of players who previously underwent shoulder surgery and are aiming to return to playing in 2025. Those players are Brandon Woodruff and Jeferson Quero.
Brandon Woodruff faced live hitters for the first time

On Friday, February 14 Woodruff faced live hitters for the first time since undergoing shoulder surgery in October of 2023. Per Adam McCalvy, he threw about 25 pitches and faced both William Contreras and Jake Bauers.

Jeferson Quero also reached an important milestone

Quero, the top Milwaukee Brewers prospect, missed all of last season after he sustained a shoulder subluxation on opening day of the minor leagues. He underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum, and on Friday he threw to the bases on for just the second time since surgery.
A little progress this morning for @MLBPipeline’s top Brewers prospect, Jeferson Quero, who made a handful of throws to the bases for the second time since last year’s shoulder surgery. The plan, Pat Murphy said, is for Quero to catch in exhibition games before the end of camp. pic.twitter.com/liZkEv6Zmo

The Milwaukee Brewers estimate Quero is at 75-80%

MLB.com reporter Adam McCalvy also indicated that the Brewers estimate Quero to be at 75-80% as spring training began. Their goal is to get him into Cactus League games this spring, but throwing remains the biggest hurdle in his recovery. Quero was known for his throwing arm and ability to catch runners stealing as a prospect, so returning to pre-injury form is very important.
Whether Quero gets into games during spring training or not, he’s likely to report to Triple-A once ready. Quero has played just one game at that level and the Brewers have Eric Haase slated to backup William Contreras. Non-roster invitee Jorge Alfaro is also a depth piece in the organization who is capable of filling in if needed.
