During the 2024 MLB season, Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras was one of the best players in the lineup. The Brewers have won back-to-back National League Central Division titles and are looking to do it again for a third consecutive season in 2025.
However, one name to potentially watch for in spring training is catcher Jeferson Quero. He is one of the top prospects in the Brewers farm system. Quero could help take some pressure off of Contreras in 2025 and can also help the team out in other ways as well.
William Moxon of reviewingthebrew.com Thinks That Milwaukee Brewers Catcher Jeferson Quero Could Be a Breakout Candidate In 2025
The Brewers are going to need some help from unexpected sources in 2025 if they are going to get back to the playoffs again. William Moxon of reviewingthebrew.com wrote about three potential candidates who could have a breakout season in 2025 for the Brewers.
One player who could potentially have a breakout year for Milwaukee is catcher Jeferson Quero. Moxon said:
“Next up is the number one prospect in the Brewers rankings and that is catcher Jeferson Quero. An injury in his first Triple-A appearance of 2024 derailed the entire year for Quero as he was expected to arrive in the majors last season.
Eric Haase was a really positive addition for the Brewers in 2024 and Gary Sanchez, who has now moved on, had his moments to. William Contreras is still in arbitration with Milwaukee but we know he is still going to be the starting catcher moving forward, but that doesn’t stop Quero from breaking out this year.
Contreras was no stranger to playing the DH position and that could provide opportunity to the young Venezuelan that has hit .278/.350/.445 with a .795 OPS across his three years in the Minor Leagues. Taking the load slightly off Contreras would be perfect for Quero as he is a solid bat while also being arguably the best catcher across the minors, as shown in his 2023 Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award.”
It will be interesting to see if Jeferson Quero starts the 2025 season in the minor leagues or not. If he does, it probably won’t be a very long stint. Once he gets called up, Quero probably won’t be going back down to the minor leagues.
Platoon Swap
If Quero makes the Opening Day roster in 2025, there is a chance that we could see a lot of times this season where Jeferson Quero is the catcher and William Contreras is the designated hitter and also vice versa. Milwaukee has a chance to be a really good baseball team once this season.
With the loss of Willy Adames this offseason, they will need help elsewhere. Jeferson Quero is the next big named prospect for the Brewers to be called up to the majors and make an impact. Jackson Chourio was the impact rookie last season for Milwaukee.
