The Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers have met each other over the years in the postseason. Both NFL teams may need to make some critical decisions at the wide receiver position this offseason.

Green Bay finished this season with an 11-7 record and San Francisco missed the playoffs with a 6-11 record. The 49ers at some point will also have to decide if they want to sign Brock Purdy to a contract extension or not. If they want to pay Purdy a lengthy contract extension, they may need to part ways with some key players this NFL offseason.

49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be entering the final year of his contract. He is 29 years old and it is possible that San Francisco will not give him a new contract after this season. This past season with the San Francisco 49ers, he caught 51 passes for 670 yards receiving and three touchdowns, along with averaging 13.1 yards per reception.

Samuel has also rushed for 136 yards on 42 carries and one touchdown, along with averaging 3.2 yards per carry. Jovan Alford of dairylandexpress.com thinks that the Green Bay Packers could potentially target the 49ers star wide receiver this offseason. Alford said:

” But the same can’t be said for Samuel, who took a step back this past season. It doesn’t help that San Francisco has Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall, who stepped up.”

Samuel might need a change of scenery. San Francisco could realize that he is injury-prone.

    2019 NFL Draft

Deebo Samuel was a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft from the South Carolina Gamecocks. He was picked 36th overall by the 49ers. Peter Bukowski also added on his Twitter page:

“It’s interesting Brian Gutekunst mentioned he had DK Metcalf and Deebo Samuel similarly rated to Elgton Jenkins in the draft because both of those guys could be on the block this spring.”

General manager Brian Gutekunst would have to decide who is better between Samuel and Metcalf. Deebo Samuel could be a good fit because of the jet sweeps that head coach Matt LaFleur loves to run. However, the Green Bay Packers should choose D.K. Metcalf over Deebo Samuel because they need a true number one wide receiver for quatrtebrakc Jordan Love.
