The Milwaukee Brewers are preparing for the 2024 season and one of the names that has yet to reach the majors is outfielder Jackson Chourio. He is currently 19 years old and will turn 20 on March 11, which is during spring training and right before the 2024 season.
Chourio is the second-best prospect in all of baseball and the top prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, according to The Athletic’s Keith Law. The only prospect that he is ranked behind is Baltimore Orioles shortstop Jackson Holiday.
Both are expected to contribute to their ball clubs in 2024 in some sort of fashion. Chourio has high odds to win the National League Rookie of the Year Award and Holiday also has high odds to win the American League Rookie of the Year Award.
Jackson Chourio is a right-handed hitter and a right-handed fielder. He is 5’11” and weighs 165 lbs. According to Keith Law, he wrote about Chourio by saying:
“Chourio came into the year as my No. 3 prospect, behind the two eventual Rookie of the Year winners, but then got off to a slow start when the Brewers started him in Double-A Biloxi despite just 31 games in High A and six in Double A the year before. Whether he was pressing or just adjusting to the tougher level, when the sun rose on June 1st, Chourio was hitting .254/.308/.418 and had punched out in a quarter of his plate appearances. The rest of the season, he hit .297/.353/.492 with a 15 percent strikeout rate and spent the final week with Triple-A Nashville. That week went pretty well, as Chourio put 21 balls in play, eight of them with exit velocities of 100 mph or better, peaking at 107.2 mph, and just five below 91 mph. Chourio still finished fifth in the Double-A Southern League in steals and tied for fourth in homers, and has barely begun to fill out physically, getting to that power and hard contact with strong wrists and incredible bat speed.”
Milwaukee Brewers Jackson Chourio May or May Not Start the Season in the Big Leagues
It will be interesting to see whether or not Chourio starts the season in the big leagues or if he is going to get sent down to Triple-A with the Nashville Sounds for a couple of weeks. Jackson Chourio needs to be an everyday player in the big leagues. There would be a lot of upset fans if he was sent to the minors for a couple of weeks, but remember he barely played in Triple-A last season and will only be 20 years old when the regular season begins at the end of March.
There is no rush for him to be called up to the big leagues even though Chourio will be playing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin sometime in 2024. Fans will need to calm down with the expectations because even though he did sign a contract extension already before playing in one big league game, things could go the other way and that is something they don’t want.
