The Milwaukee Brewers have announced a major change to their coaching staff for the upcoming 2025 season. Ozzie Timmons, who had previously been a co-hitting coach with Connor Dawson, has been let go. Taking over as the lead hitting coach is Al LeBoeuf. Eric Theisen was also promoted and will serve a role in assisting Al LeBoeuf.
Who are Al LeBoeuf and Eric Theisen?
Al LeBeuf, age 64, has been with the Milwaukee Brewers organization for 15 years. He is a former corner infielder who played in the Minor Leagues from 1981-1888 and topped out in Triple-A with the Philadelphia Phillies. Outside of his hitting coordinator work in Milwaukee’s Minor League system he coached or managed in the minors with the Phillies, Mets, Royals and Blue Jays.
Eric Theisen, age 39, is a former collegiate pitcher who joined the Brewers organization as a hitting coordinator in 2021. Last year he worked alongside Al LeBoeuf in Triple-A. His tenure in the Major Leagues next season will mark his MLB debut as a coach.
The Milwaukee Brewers did retain Connor Dawson
Returning for his fourth season with the club will be 31 year old Connor Dawson. With the coaching changes he will report to Al LeBoeuf. Having multiple coaches assigned to one position is becoming more and more prevalent throughout the game as the amount of data has increased and analytics have been a driving force in how coaches and players go about their day to day operations.
Al LeBoeuf realizes that his position as lead hitting coach is pretty important
Adam McCalvy of MLB.com spoke with Al LeBoeuf about the hiring and he reiterated that this position is pretty important. LeBoeuf has years of experience to lean on and tons of familiarity with multiple players currently in the big leagues for the Brewers that he can lean on during his first year as lead hitting coach.
“The first thing is to realize that my position is a pretty important one, and we’re trying to get to the pinnacle. I know that myself, ET [Theisen] and Connor will work really well together and get to the solution. ET and I did this last year in Nashville and we were very involved in the data, and organizing it for the players. I think all three of us will put our heads together and work well together.”
