Last November, the Milwaukee Brewers signed Colin Rea to a one-year extension deal worth $4.5 million. That also comes with a club option for the 2025 MLB season worth $5.5 million. With the way Rea has been pitching this season overall, that deal looks like a bargain.
On Sunday, Rea once again impressed, as he took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning in a 2-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians. He finished the game with zero earned runs surrendered and five strikeouts with just two hits allowed through seven innings. It was the second in his last three starts that he pitched seven scoreless innings.
After the game, Brewers manager Pat Murphy had nothing but praises for the 34-year-old Rea.
Via the Associated Press (h/t ESPN):
“He’s just been an incredible anchor,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “He really has. He gives you it every time out. What you see is what you get. It’s who he is as a human, every day the same, every day doing everything he can to help out whoever’s around him, whatever the mission is. The consummate teammate. I can’t say enough about him.”
Through 24 games (21 starts) in the 2024 MLB regular season thus far, Rea is brandishing an 11-4 record to go with a 3.52 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. His 119 ERA+ is also the best of his career by a big margin.
Up next for Rea and the Brewers is a three-game series on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals which starts this Tuesday night at Busch Stadium.
