The Milwaukee Brewers held their end of the season press conference on Thursday, October 10. Pitching was one topic of discussion covered in which Robert Gasser, Aaron Ashby, and Tobias Myers were all mentioned. Here’s more on how the team currently views them and what to expect entering 2025.
Robert Gasser may not be ready to pitch for the Milwaukee Brewers until the second half of the 2025 season.
After five big league starts in 2024 that consisted of a 2.57 ERA and 28.0 innings pitched Brewers rookie pitcher Robert Gasser unfortunately saw his season come to an abrupt halt as elected to undergo Tommy John surgery. The 25 year old underwent the knife towards the end of June and during Milwaukee’s end of the season press conference it was revealed that he had the “traditional Tommy John” and that the normal one year recovery is expected. At best this means he may not be ready to return to the big leagues until the second half of the season.
Aaron Ashby could be in the starting rotation mix in 2025.
After initially struggling mightily in a starting role the Brewers transitioned Aaron Ashby to the bullpen in 2024. The results were increased velocity, less walks, and better results. Ashby, who spent much of the season in the Minor Leagues, ended up making the post season roster as a result. Looking forward to 2025 manager Pat Murphy doesn’t view Ashby as a late innings reliever and thinks he is in the mix to provide length to the pitching staff that may include starting.
“If you’re asking me today if he belongs in that late inning role, I’d say no. I’d say he’s more of a candidate to throw more innings because his stuff is pretty special and there’s a variety there. That’s going to be discussed, the path. And it has to be player-driven. The player has to want certain things or at least be in a healthy discussion about it.”

Tobias Myers is a lock to start 2025 in the starting rotation.
One feel good story from the 2024 campaign was rookie Tobias Myers incredible turn around. The 26 year old rookie posted a 3.00 ERA during the regular season and threw five shutout innings during the Wild Card Series. His success this season has earned him a guaranteed look in the starting rotation next year.
“In my thoughts, he’s a definite. But he’s got to go do it in the offseason. He’s got to come back out, recapture that mentality and recapture the arsenal, which isn’t always easy.”

Other topics discussed during the Brewers end of the season press conference included Christian Yelich remaining an outfielder, Sal Frelick getting a look at third base in 2025, remaining open minded about a Devin Williams off-season trade, and much more.
