David Stearns stepped down from his role with the Milwaukee Brewers after the 2022 season. Previously, the Milwaukee Brewers held the right to deny him permission to interview with other teams, but that time has passed. Stearns’ name has been associated with the New York Mets for quite some time, but a new article by Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon for The Athletic outlines the current process for the New York Mets to hire him.
The New York Mets are targeting David Stearns

The article outlines the desire of the Mets’ owner, Steve Cohen, to hire a president of baseball operations. Stearns obviously made a name for himself during his time with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Mets believe he can have a similar impact on their organization.
The New York Mets could not live up to the expectations they set for themselves with a big payroll and a 2022 postseason appearance. Stearns would take over as the president of baseball operations and general manager Billy Eppler would serve under him. The article also states that some league sources believe that Stearns is already “down the road” in his discussions with the Mets.
