For years, one of the pitchers Milwaukee Brewers fans hated seeing on the mound against their team was long-time veteran Jose Quintana. In 23 games against Milwaukee dating back 2012, Quintana was 9-7 with a 2.98 ERA and 131 strikeouts. Fortunately for the Brewers, they will not have to face him at all in 2025 because, well, he is now on their team.
On Monday, it was reported that Milwaukee and Quintana had reached an agreement on a one-year $4.25 million contract (pending a physical). Apparently, the process of negotiating was a long and difficult one as the two sides have been talking for months.
In the end, though, the Brewers have nabbed another veteran starter who can add depth to their rotation. Last year, Milwaukee used 17 starting pitchers due to the high volume of injuries to their starters. Quintana made 31 starts for the New York Mets, going 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA.
Milwaukee Brewers Star Christian Yelich Has High Praise for Team, Jose Quintana

One person who really liked the signing was Brewers three-time All-Star outfielder Christian Yelich, who was 10-35 (.285) with a home run and five RBI against Quintana in his career. In a recent article written by MLB insider Mark Feinsand, Yelich was quoted as saying:
“It energizes the team. We like the guys that we have, and we have a good team. But any time you can add guys — especially, someone that has done the things that Jose has done in this league — it energizes the group.
“The more good players that you can have on your team, the better off you’re going to be, especially on the pitching side. You know you’re going to need depth there, because you use a lot of guys in the season.
“He knows how to pitch; he moves the ball around and hits his spots, keeps you off-balance. He gives you a chance to win every time he goes out there. He’s pitched in every kind of game you can pitch in and it’s always good to have guys like that on your team and on your staff. We’re excited to have him.”
Last year, the Brewers opened the 2024 season with a starting rotation of:
- Freddy Peralta
- Colin Rea
- Jakob Junis
- Joe Ross
- DL Hall
Now, their starting rotation is projected to be:
- Peralta
- Tobias Myers
- Nestor Cortes
- Jose Quintana
- Aaron Civale
