The Milwaukee Brewers have made a front office move as former New York Mets general manager Billy Eppler has joined as a special advisor. Eppler will report under Matt Arnold and will own a similar title that David Stearns had prior to leaving. Interestingly, Stearns and Eppler were close to working together in the big apple, until a one year suspension changed that course.
What will Billy Eppler bring to the table?

Eppler joins the Brewers with over 20 years of baseball experience. He originally entered the profession in 2000 as a scout for the Colorado Rockies, rose to director of pro scouting and assistant GM with the New York Yankees, and had tenures of being the general manager for the Los Angeles Angels and New York Mets. His scouting background is perhaps the most intriguing, which is likely why his full title with Milwaukee will read: special advisor, scouting and baseball operations.
Why was Billy Eppler suspended for one year?

MLB suspended Eppler following the 2023 season due to evidence of him fabricating injuries for the purposes of improper injured list placements. Said occurrences took place during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. His punishment was a suspension from baseball through the conclusion of the 2024 World Series.
Is Billy Eppler using the Milwaukee Brewers as a building block?
At 49 years of age, Eppler may be looking to become a general manager again. Securing one of those positions after being removed from baseball for a year is difficult, so it’s possible that his tenure with the Brewers is a building block to his future goals.
If Eppler wants to pursue such a position, Matt Arnold may ultimately have to grant him permission or his contract will have to expire. Contract lengths regarding baseball executives are generally kept on the down low, so it will be interesting to see if any news surfaces on that front.
