The Milwaukee Brewers ability to find and develop pitching talent is well known across Major League Baseball. Recently one Minor League pitcher that they acquired via trade last off-season won the triple crown. He also could be a late season big league call up candidate.
Pitcher acquired in the Abraham Toro trade wins the Minor League triple crown.
Last November the Milwaukee Brewers dealt Abraham Toro to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for right-handed pitcher Chad Patrick. Patrick pitched the entire 2024 season in Triple-A and won the triple crown by leading the International League in wins (14), ERA (2.90), and strikeouts (145). He also accumulated 136.1 innings pitched this year, had a 9.57 K:9, and a 1.09 WHIP.
The Milwaukee Brewers have an open 40-man roster spot.
Over the weekend the Brewers designated reliever Enoli Paredes for assignment. He went on to be claimed by the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee currently has one spot open on their 40-man roster. For a multitude of reasons Chad Patrick has a high chance of occupying that spot.
Why Chad Patrick should be added to the Milwaukee Brewers 40-man roster before seasons end.
Chad Patrick was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft. This means that if the Brewers don’t add the 26 year old to the 40-man roster by a deadline typically in November that he could be drafted by another organization in December’s Rule-5 draft. Adding him to the 40-man roster before the end of the 2024 season would not only ensure his protection this off-season but he also could potentially make his MLB debut this year (in order to keep the Brewers top arms fresh before the playoffs) and be a part of the big league clubs plans in 2025.
