Shortly after Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Wade Miley was placed on the injured list with elbow discomfort the team provided a positive update on two of their pitchers. The two pitchers discussed were Brandon Woodruff and Aaron Ashby.
Brandon Woodruff has been out since April and has only made two starts this season. Aaron Ashby underwent shoulder surgery to address his labrum and has not pitched this year. Both are on track to pitch for the Brewers again this year.
Milwaukee Brewers: Injury updates on Brandon Woodruff and Aaron Ashby
Per Craig Counsell Brandon Woodruff will make his first rehab appearance on Saturday, July 22 with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The plan is to build him up to a starter’s work load, which means he will make multiple rehab starts separated by five days. He will make a minimum of three minor league starts but he could require as much as five.
On the other hand Aaron Ashby will be built up like a reliever. This should expedite the time needed in order to be ready to join the Brewers. Right now he has been throwing bullpen sessions in Arizona but is on pace to start some Complex League games in the near future.
For Milwaukee getting both of these players back this season will be a huge boost. Brandon Woodruff is a work horse on the mound and can often single handedly keep Milwaukee in ball games. Aaron Ashby is a high octane pitcher whose sinker and slider have a ton of movement. When he is dialed in he is nearly impossible to hit and this could make him a valuable left-handed bullpen asset down the stretch.
