The Milwaukee Brewers signed former MVP Josh Donaldson to a minor league contract 11 days ago. Signing prior to September 1 is important because that meant at any time he could be added to the 40-man roster and be playoff eligible. His contract has now been selected by the Brew Crew and he is immediately being placed in the starting lineup in which he will play third base and bat fifth tonight against the Miami Marlins.

Josh Donaldson has his contract selected by the Milwaukee Brewers.
When Josh Donaldson initially put pen to paper on a minor league contract the plan all along was to get him on the big league roster. By signing a minor league deal he was able to get some regular at-bats underneath his belt. This is important because he previously was on the injured list with a calf injury prior to being released by the New York Yankees.
In Triple-A with the Nashville Sounds Josh Donaldson ended by clobbering home runs in his last two games played. The hope is that with joining Milwaukee he will provide some offensive output, especially against left-handed pitchers. His first start against the Marlins will be against southpaw Jesus Luzardo and Miami also has lefty Braxton Garrett projected to start on Wednesday, September 13.
Time will tell if this signing works in the Brewers favor or not, but overall acquiring him was a low risk transaction.
