The Milwaukee Admirals are proving themselves once again in the AHL in the Western Conference this season after losing to the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the Western Conference Finals a season ago. Milwaukee this season is currently in second place in the Central Division with a 14-9-1-0 record with 29 points and a .604 win percentage.
They are behind the Texas Stars (the Dallas Stars affiliate) in the standings with a 16-7-2-1 record with 35 points and a .673 win percentage. The Admirals have scored 76 goals so far this season and they have given up 67 goals. Milwaukee is the AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators.
Milwaukee is coached by Karl Taylor. Denis Gurianov has played well for the Admirals in the AHL so far this season. He has scored eight goals and has recorded 16 assists so far this season, along with a plus/minus rating of 8. Gurianov is trying to earn his way back to the NHL.
Mark Jankowski has scored six goals and has recorded 16 assists on the campaign for the Admirals. He has a plus/minus rating of 8.
Joakim Kemell has scored eight goals and has recorded 11 assists this season for Milwaukee. He has a plus/minus rating of -2. Kemell is only 19 years old and is one of the top prospects in the Nashville Predators farm system. He was the 17th overall pick (first-round selection) in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by Nashville. Joakim Kemell will continue to develop in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals, but he will get that call-up at some point.
Goaltending Once Again Has Carried the Milwaukee Admirals in 2023-2024
Just like in 2022-2023, the Admirals got to the Western Conference Finals because of goaltending. It is the same case once again this season with the tandem of Troy Grosenick and Yaroslav Askarov. Grosenick has played in 12 games this season for Milwaukee. He has a 7-3-0 record with a 2.67 GAA and a .911 save percentage, along with zero shutouts.
Askarov is another top prospect in the Predators’ farm system, who is getting quality time in the AHL because of Juuse Saros and Kevin Lankinen. Yarsolav Askorav has played in 14 games so far this season for the Milwaukee Admirals and has a 7-6-1 record with a 2.49 GAA and a .908 save percentage, and zero shutouts.
The top team in the Pacific Division in the Western Conference is the Calgary Wranglers (AHL Affiliate of the Calgary Flames). They have a 16-7-2 with 34 points and a .680 win percentage. If Milwaukee were to make it back to the Western Conference Finals this season, that is one of the teams they would maybe have to face.
The Admirals need to score the puck more. They are structurally sound defensively and rely on goaltending to win a bunch of games. Milwaukee’s next game will be against the Chicago Wolves (8-13-1-2 record, .396 win percentage, and Carolina Hurricanes AHL affiliate) on Saturday night with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
