Stevie Mitchell shone the brightest for Marquette Golden Eagles‘ hard-fought win against the Butler Bulldogs.
Kam Jones posted his usual numbers with 17 points but was saddled by foul trouble while David Joplin had 14 points. Chase Ross also had 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
Those guys struggled at one point in the game and Mitchell had to take some of the load to help his team win the second half by 16 points and lead them to a 78-69 victory.
Mitchell was the man of the night but post-game, he refused to take all the credit.
He also did not want to focus on his points career high saying something is worth more during the night.
“I don’t really take pride in, like, points,” he said.
“There’s so many other things that I bring to the game.
“I just take pride in winning. Some games it’s going to end up with me having some points. Just because of the way we play, everybody touches the ball. Everybody’s put in positions to score.”

The starting five produced the points they need to overcome the pesky Bulldogs.
The come back will not be completed though if not the relievers who may not have provided the scoring but got opponents’ struggling through their choking defense.
Royce Parham scored just three points while Tre Norman and Zaide Lowery had five points each.
Mitchell emphasized how important their contributions were to get the victory.
“I get to see it all the time in practice, but when they make plays out here everybody gets to see it,” he told reporters post-game.
“I know what they’re capable of, so just seeing them step forward and show it makes me super excited.
“Especially when it goes into winning. They were huge tonight, we wouldn’t have won without them. I was just glad they were ready.”
