Green Bay Packers Fans Are Outraged with Bill Belichick for His Idea of Renaming the Lombardi Trophy

Ever since the Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC Championship and advanced to the Super Bowl, the Green Bay Packers and their fans have found themselves having to defend their history. As many are well aware, former Packers coach Andy Reid and his Chiefs are going to be competing in Super Bowl LIX in an effort to win their third straight championship.

Should they win, they will be the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls. However, many analysts have inaccurately been posting and saying that Kansas City would be the first team in NFL history to win three straight titles, period.

Which, of course, is not the case.

The Packers won three consecutive titles on two separate occasions. The first happened from 1929-1931, and the second from 1956-1967. The last three-peat included victories in Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II.

Green Bay Packers Fans Are Living that Bill Belichick Wants to Rename the Vince Lombardi Trophy After Tom Brady

Due to their victory in the first two Super Bowls and the untimely death of former head coach Vince Lombardi, the NFL decided to name the Super Bowl trophy after the beloved Packers coach. For decades, teams and players have dreamed of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy after winning the Super Bowl.

Bill Belichick would like to see that changed.

In a recent interview, the former New England Patriots head coach and winner of six Super Bowls himself said that he would like to see the trophy renamed after Tom Brady, who won seven.

Bill Belichick thinks the NFL should rename the Lombardi Trophy after Tom Brady—since players are the reason you win.

“Maybe they should name it the ‘Brady Trophy.’ He won seven of them.”

As one might imagine, Packers fans were not happy with his suggestion:

Bill Belichick is a football historian and knows this. Vince Lombardi died of cancer at the age of only 57 in 1970. The Super Bowl trophy was named in his honor a short time later. Renaming it for Brady is ridiculous

Perhaps naming the Super Bowl MVP trophy after Brady would be a better idea. But even then, he may get passed by Patrick Mahomes for all-time Super Bowl MVPs by the time the Chiefs quarterback decides to hang up his cleats.
