Major changes are going to happen to Marquette Golden Eagles and other sports teams of Marquette University with the promotion of Mike Broeker as the new vice president and director of athletics.
Broeker has been with the school since 2003, the last 18 years of them as as deputy athletic director. He is replacing Bill Scholl who announced his retirement after 10 years in the position.
Marquette president Kimo Ah Yun hailed the new designation of Broeker who he described as a person committed to wheeling the school to a transformative experience.
Throughout his decades-long career at Marquette, Mike has demonstrated that he is committed to providing a transformational experience for our student-athletes.
As a former student-athlete (as a baseball player at Siena), Mike understands the demands our student-athletes face and creates an environment that supports every aspect of their Marquette experience. He has been involved in a number of campus initiatives and appreciates the role athletics plays within the university community.
Broeker’s role in Marquette Golden Eagles coaching staff]
Marquette Golden Eagles basketball is among those that benefited from the great work by Broeker as a deputy director.
He was involved in the team’s handling of schedule as the administrator. He is also behind the 2021 hiring of head coach Shaka Smart who in 2023 won AP Coach of the Year, NABC Coach of the Year, Henry Iba Award, Big East Coach of the Year.
With changing landscape of college athletics, Broeker will be concerned with the name, image and likeness deals among others. It is a familiar work for him as he already has an experience on NIL while working with predecessor Bill Scholl.
Golden Eagles also have to thank the new VP for times they play at Fiserv Forum and the expansion of the MU’s Athletic and Human Performance Research Center.
