The Marquette Golden Eagles are looking to bounce back in a big way in Big East Conference play on Friday night against the Georgetown Hoyas. Marquette is ranked sixth in the country and they were dominated on the road on Tuesday night against the unranked Providence Friars by a final score of 72-57.
Marquette will be home against Georgetown with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on FS1. The Golden Eagles are 0-1 in conference play this season and so are the Hoyas. They lost to the Butler Bulldogs on the road by a final score of 74-64 on Tuesday night as well.
Marquette is 9-3 overall on the year and Georgetown is 7-5 overall on the year. Only three players scored in double figures for the Marquette Golden Eagles on Tuesday night against the Providence Friars. It is no surprise that Tyler Kolek was Marquette’s best player in that game.
When the lights turn on, he doesn’t disappoint. Kolek scored 21 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and recorded five assists. Oso Ighodaro scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Kam Jones scored 13 points for head coach Shaka Smart’s squad.
Players To Watch For on the Georgetown Hoyas Against the Marquette Golden Eagles
Georgetown head coach Ed Cooley is trying to change the basketball program around after being the head coach for Providence. Three players scored in double figures the other night for the Hoyas against the Butler Bulldogs. Dontrez Styles scored 19 points, grabbed six rebounds, and recorded one assist.
Jayden Epps scored 12 points off the bench and Supreme Cook scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Georgetown Hoyas. Georgetown will be in for another long night against the Marquette Golden Eagles.
With Marquette returning home and being one of the top teams in the country, this is a game that they can easily beat the Hoyas by double digits. The Golden Eagles can’t afford to go 0-2 in Big East Conference play.
