Marquette Golden Eagles have three commitment for the 2026 season before Monday but it has gone down to two. There’s nothing to be worried about though as the one missing is still with them. He only arrived earlier than expected.
Sheek Pearson shocked the Golden Eagles community when he announced that he is joining head coach Shaka Smart’s squad this 2025 season instead of the next one. He confirmed his commitment to the team for 2026 last May.
Pearson, who stands 6’11, is four-star recruit according to 247 Sports and is rated no. 37 by ESPN for the 2026 class.
“I thought that it was best for my future to get more development,” he said in an interview with ESPN.
He also cited Smart’s influence on him as the reason behind this sudden decision.
“I don’t think I would have been able to build as good a relationship in the amount of time if I were to wait. They had been recruiting me for almost a full year. The relationship was very strong.”

Smart says Marquette Golden Eagles will enjoy him
The team said Pearson will redshirt for 2025. This means that he will be able to train closely with the team without losing any of his college eligibility years.
Smart welcomed this development.
“We are incredibly excited about Sheek joining our program,” he said via the team website.
“He comes from a terrific family and basketball background and possesses incredible character and intelligence.

“We’re grateful for Sheek’s uncommon commitment to relationships, growth and victory,” Smart said. “Marquette Nation will really enjoy getting to know him!”
Pearson will be able to train with the team’s current players and learn from the likes of big man Joshua Clark, Ben Gold, and Caeden Hamilton.
