Kam Jones is easily the biggest star for Marquette basketball in the 2024-25 season, but there is more to the Golden Eagles than just the bucket-getting senior. There is also Jones’ fellow senior Steve Mitchell, who has been an important, albeit less-heralded, weapon of Shaka Smart’s Golden Eagles.
College basketball expert Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports recently gave Mitchell a shoutout, noting the outstanding player’s outstanding performance and tremendous positive impact on Marquette this season.
Marquette is plus 30 this season when Stevie Mitchell has been on the floor in games played against power conference opponents and Dayton. And he’s only had 12 turnovers this year in 351 minutes played. One of the great utility players in college basketball.
Teams should not be sleeping on Marquette basketball’s Stevie Mitchell
Mitchell seems to be doing a lot of things right for Marquette whenever he is on the floor. He is an efficient scorer with a 64.4 true shooting percentage while also being a big asset on the other end of the floor for the Golden Eagles.
In fact, Mitchell is 19th in the nation among eligible players with a 5.1 percent steals rate. Mitchell’s 129.6 offensive rating is just a hair behind Jones’ 130.6.
In the season, Mitchell is averaging 11.5 points on a 56.6 field goal percentage, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals per outing.
