The Marquette Golden Eagles opened conference play on Wednesday night against the Butler Bulldogs. Marquette won the game over Butler by a final score of 80-70. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 1-0 in conference play and 10-2 overall on the season. As for Butler, they are 0-1 in conference play and 7-5 overall this season.

This was a good win for the Golden Eagles in BIG East Conference play. Marquette is the ninth-ranked team in the nation and they have a chance to be the best team in the conference this season.
Kam Jones Drops 23 Points For the Marquette Golden Eagles Against the Butler Bulldogs

To no surprise, the Golden Eagles’ leading scoring in this game was Kam Jones. He continues to perform well for them. If Kam Jones is going to score over 20 points per game in league play, there is a very good chance that he could win the Big East Player of the Year. Jones also grabbed seven rebounds and recorded five assists. He is probably the best player for head coach Shaka Smart.
Stevie Mitchell and David Joplin each scored 15 points for Marquette. Mitchell grabbed nine rebounds and Joplin also grabbed six rebounds in the game.
Butler Double-Digit Scorers

Thad Matta had four different players score in double figures for the Butler Bulldogs. Kolby King and Jahmyl Telfort each had 16 points. Telfort had 10 rebounds and recorded four assists. Patrick McCaffrey scored 13 points and Pierre Brooks II also added 11 points for the Bulldogs.
The Golden Eagles trailed by three points at halftime. Marquette looked much better in the second half against Butler. Kam Jones could carry this team to great heights this college basketball season as the ninth-ranked team in the nation and they only committed two turnovers in the game.
