Marquette basketball is still one of the best teams in the country despite suffering back-to-back losses to begin February. On Tuesday, Marquette fell on the road against a red-hot St. John’s Red Storm squad, 70-64. Last weekend, despite forcing 21 turnovers and attempting 21 more field goals, the Golden Eagles lost to the UConn Huskies, 77-69. Marquette’s offense has sputtered down the stretch, failing to eclipse 35 points in four of their last six halves, with one complimentary piece struggling more than most.
New Zealand junior forward Ben Gold is amid an unprecedented stretch, going just 2-of-11 from the field during his past four games. He has hit just one of his nine three-point attempts. More notably, Gold has failed to snatch a rebound in his last 49 minutes of play. His recent shortcomings and Marquette’s brutal start to February have fans taking aim at Gold via social media.
Ben Gold Trashed By Fans

According to @MubbN on Twitter:
Over the last two games Ben Gold is a combined 1-5 FG, 0-4 3PT, two blocks, and ZERO rebounds over the span of a cumulative 47 minutes.
Maquette basketball will look to avoid a three-game slide when they visit the Creighton Bluejays this weekend. Creighton has won eight straight and nine of their last ten games. Marquette must return to their offensive ceiling to avoid a third consecutive conference loss. During their brief struggles, forward Ben Gold has failed to record a rebound in each of the team’s last two losses. He is also 1-of-5 from the field during that span.
Gold is averaging 7.4 points and 4.2 rebounds this season, an uptick from a five-point, three-rebound campaign last year. Unfortunately for Marquette, his efficiency has taken a dip, shooting 42% from the field, a significant drop from his 45% from the 2023-24 season. Most notably, with the 6’11 forward accounting for zero rebounds in his last two games, Marquette basketball fans have used him as a scapegoat for the team’s back-to-back conference defeats:
Second straight game for Ben Gold without a rebound. Almost impressive

Ben Gold has not grabbed a rebound in back-to-back games for Marquette.

Does Ben Gold ever get any actual rebounds or does he just play volleyball? He does a really good job of doing that without fouling

Ben Gold 0 rebounds lmao

Some unfiltered thoughts on #mubb:
1. Over two games and 47 minutes of play, Ben Gold had zero rebounds.
2. Kam's become one dimensional as a driver. Shooters go on streaks, but his form looks off to me.
3. Why is Tre Norman such a poor ft shooter?— John Willkom (@JohnWillkom) February 5, 2025
Ben Gold has nosedived the last four games. Just been awful. That first rebound there, he just loses contact of the guy he's boxing out. Rebounding 101 for the big on the post.

6’11” Ben Gold has 0 rebounds in two ranked big east conference matchups. Cmon man.

Marquette Visiting Creighton Saturday

In a matchup of two March Madness locks, the Creighton Bluejays will host the Marquette Golden Eagles on Saturday. Marquette entered this week 11th in the AP Top 25, while Creighton received votes but is on the outside looking in with a 16-6 record. Marquette beat Creighton 79-71 earlier in the season. Superstar guard Kam Jones scored 22 points, snagged nine rebounds, and dished out five assists in the win. The Golden Eagles held opposing guard Steven Ashworth to 13 points on a brutal 1-of-13 from three.
