JC Latham, a Wisconsin Native at the University of Alabama, is currently being linked to being drafted by the New York Giants in the 2024 NFL Draft. Latham is a right tackle at Alabama and has been starting for them for the past two seasons at that position.
The Giants currently own a Top 10 pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. A couple of days ago on Tankathon, they had him going 10th overall to New York.
New York has a 1-3 record and one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL, if not the worst by a mile. Quarterback Daniel Jones was sacked 11 times on Monday night football in a 24-3 loss against the Seattle Seahawks at home. He was sacked already 23 times this season and is on pace to be sacked over 93 times this season. That would break the 2002 record where David Carr was sacked 76 times by the Houston Texans.
Yes, Daniel Jones may not be the answer for the long-term for the Giants, but no quarterback would survive behind this offensive line. Ask Patrick Mahomes how he fared against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl without his top two offensive tackles.
This New York Giants offense can not operate right now because the offensive line is so bad. Andrew Thomas, the starting left tackle, has been hurt all season with a hamstring injury, and rookie center John Michael-Schmitz got hurt yesterday and did not return. They are by far the two best offensive linemen on the roster, and everyone else is horrendous.
Second-year right tackle Evan Neal, who is also a former Alabama football player, appears to be a bust for the Giants already. New York needs a new offensive line in a hurry, and JC Latham would be a good place to begin. Josh Ezeudu, Shane Lemieux, and others who play on the line are horrendous. They need to sign players like Justin Pugh, Taylor Lewan, and La’el Collins to make this offensive line for the New York Giants functional for the season or it will be a sack festival every week.
General manager Joe Schoen needs to make moves and not have his fists tied.
JC Latham Is a Part of a Deep Offensive Lineman Class that the New York Giants Desperately Need
If the Giants wind up with a Top 10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, they will for sure scout all of the available offensive linemen because they are so bad at that position. JC Latham is one of the names that could be in a Giants uniform in 2024. A couple of other offensive linemen that will be picked in the Top 10 in the 2024 NFL Draft are Olu Fashanu out of Penn State and Joe Alt out of Notre Dame.
Some of the other offensive linemen to watch for this season are Kingsley Suamataia out of BYU, Amarius Mims out of Georgia, and Graham Barton out of Duke.
According to a scouting report on nfldraftbuzz.com about Latham, it says:
“When his hand placement is right, Latham has a strong grip that allows him to effectively engage opponents. He plays with a mean streak and maintains aggression through the whistle. Though, he needs to work on consistently leveraging his power and functional strength.”
JC Latham is 6’6″ and weighs 359 lbs. Neal is 6’7″ and weighs 340 lbs, but he doesn’t look like he belongs in the NFL as a right tackle. Evan Neal needs to be moved to guard or just not see the field at all for the New York Giants. Latham is from Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and would be a better fit for the Giants right now at right tackle than Neal would be moving forward.
