Following the Green Bay Packers’ loss to the Detroit Lions last November, quarterback Aaron Rodgers made a regretful comment that seems to have stuck with Jared Goff. Rodgers said the Packers couldn’t afford to lose to “that team.” Goff dug back at Rodgers and the Packers on Thursday night during the Lions’ draft party.
Jared Goff takes a shot at Green Bay Packers
According to Michael David Smith with NBC Sports, Goff said he wished the Packers hadn’t traded Rodgers to the New York Jets this offseason:
“I wish him the best in New York, and I’m sure he’ll do a great job there. But I kind of wish he was still here so we could beat him twice a year,” Goff said.
The Lions would take Rodgers’ insult to heart in Week 18 of the 2022 season. The Seattle Seahawks’ victory in Week 18 had knocked the Lions out of the Wild Card race by the time they faced the Packers on Sunday Night Football at Lambeau Field. Goff and the Lions had nothing to play for in the contest but pride. They wound up beating the Packers 20-16 to keep the Packers out of the playoffs.
It would wind up being the final time Rodgers would play as a quarterback for the Packers.
