The Green Bay Packers are heading into the 2024 season with a lot of expectations on defense. It isn’t the first time in recent memory that the Packers have high pre-season expectations on defense only to dashed half way through the season. However, it does feel a little different this time with the influx of new coaches and personnel.
Xavier McKinney was a massive addition for this defense. Today defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley had some things to say about his new Safety.
Green Bay Packers Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley Goes On Rant About Xavier McKinney
According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
“It’s been so nice to have X. What a pro. How hard he works, the communication, the way he is in the meeting rooms, the way he looks out for the younger guys.
That’s the stuff you don’t see. All the stuff I explained to you in my first meeting, yeah, we think he can do all those things – and he’s shown that he can – but the coolest part about him is, and I told him this the other day, you don’t find out about somebody and who they are and how hard they work until they get here.
That’s been the thing that’s probably made us the happiest. Great pro, great attitude, great effort. He’s done a great job so far, so really excited to have him here, continue to have him grow in the scheme and really understand the scheme.
I think it’s our job to put him in position to make a lot of things happen. It’s been fun to see everything that he can do and how quickly he can learn. I’m really glad we have him.”

The Packers Could Have A Stout Secondary In 2024
The new defensive coaching staff in Green Bay will be working with a completely revamped secondary. The team moved on from Jonathan Owens and Darnell Savage this off-season. Their corresponding moves were to sign Xavier McKinney, draft Javon Bullard, Evan Williams, and Kitan Oladapo.
Jeff Hafley has made it clear he loves the Safety position and needs a talented player there for his defense to be successful.
Jaire Alexander, Keisean Nixon, and Eric Stokes will be the top three cornerbacks entering the season. With an adequate pass rush, the secondary has the potential to be one of the best in the league.
