The Green Bay Packers have been known for taking more defensive players than offensive players in the first round of the NFL Draft. A season ago, they broke that trend by taking Jordan Morgan, an offensive tackle from Arizona in the first round.
In the second round, they found a star player by taking former Texas A&M Aggies linebacker Edgerrin Cooper. They also drafted Georgia Bulldogs safety Javon Bullard in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft as well. It will be interesting to see what the Green Bay Packers decide to do in the 2025 NFL Draft this year.
Pro Football Focus Writer Mason Cameron Has the Green Bay Packers Selecting Texas A&M Aggies Nic Scourton In the Latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft
Pro Football Focus writer Mason Cameron created his latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft. With the 23rd overall selection, he has the Green Bay Packers selecting Texas A&M Aggies defensive lineman Nic Scourton. Cameron said:
“Although the Packers finished top-five in sacks during the regular season, they led the NFL in unblocked sacks, raising concerns about the sustainability of their pass rush. Among Green Bay’s four edge rushers with 150 or more pass-rush snaps in 2024, only Rashan Gary posted a double-digit pass-rush win rate.
That wouldn’t be an issue for Nic Scourton, who has exceeded a 19.1% win rate in each of the past two seasons. The former Aggie and Boilermaker brings versatility, capable of rushing with his hand up or down from either side, giving the Packers defense a much-needed disruptive presence off the edge.”
Nic Scourton is 6’4″ and weighs 285 lbs. This past season with the Aggies, he recorded 37 tackles, five sacks, and two pass deflections. Scourton could be one of a couple of Texas A&M players who are drafted in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Green Bay Packers need help on the defensive line.
Shemar Stewart Another Potential Target
Another potential target for the Green Bay Packers this draft season is Shemar Stewart from Texas A&M. Stewart is projected to be drafted as well in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Both Shemar Stewart and Nic Scourton caused problems for opponents last season in college football.
It will be interesting to see how NFL teams rank Stewart and Scourton on their draft boards. If Green Bay is on the clock with the 23rd overall pick and both are still on the board, it will be interesting to see which direction general manager Brian Gutekunst heads in.
