The Green Bay Packers are focusing on the new era that has been ushered in during the 2023 NFL off-season.  The incredible amount of player turnover has made the Packers one of the youngest teams in the NFL.  However, there seems to be some off-the-field news that has some fans turning their heads.  Current president Mark Murphy is in the midst of a pretty surprising lawsuit.

Aaliyan Mohammed of Wisconsin Sports Heroics detailed exactly what is going on with Mark Murphy:

The Green Bay Packers President and CEO, Mark Murphy, has been named as a defendant in the hazing lawsuit against Northwestern University. Two former players, who filed under “John Doe,” have named Mark Murphy as a defendant.

Mark Murphy has served as the Green Bay Packers President and CEO since December 2007. However, before his current role, he was the athletic director at Northwestern University from 2003-2007. Being listed as a defendant mean that Mark Murphy is one of the individuals being accused or sued. Both lawsuits outline instances of hazing and sexual abuse.

The news surrounding Northwestern University is one of the biggest scandals in recent sports history. The news led to the university firing head coach Pat Fitzgerald after 17 years in the position. Both lawsuits, which list Murphy as a defendant, allege that Fitzgerald knew about the hazing happening within the program. They also state that he also encouraged the behavior.

I have a lot of trouble caring about a lawsuit for something that happened nearly 20 years ago.

Sounds on brand, stood by and watched it happen…sorry, not sorry.

    — Kush & Cheese🔥🧀💨 (@KyleField) August 3, 2023

Well he is not going to be the Packers CEO very much longer anyway

    — Jeff Smith (@JeffSmithGBPack) August 3, 2023

Not a shock given how scummy he has been in the recent years.

    — Jack Suits (@WorldOfClowns) August 3, 2023

Off-field distractions are pretty rare for the Green Bay Packers organization.  I suppose Aaron Rodgers has been the exception as of late, however, his distractions had nothing to do with legal issues.  For the most part the Packers keep their noses pretty clean.  It was pretty eye-opening to see their president involved in one of the biggest sports scandals currently happening in the Country.

The NFL forced Green Bay to hire Mark Murphy years ago, I think this is the perfect excuse to get rid of him. He never was “Packer People” let the board do the right thing and put some distance on him.
