The Green Bay Packers drafted Marshawn Lloyd in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of USC. There were a lot of plans in the 2024 season to have him in the offense.
Some thought Lloyd was the best running back in the 2024 NFL Draft class. There was a plan to have him split carries this season with veteran running back Josh Jacobs.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Marshawn Lloyd Placed On Injured Reserve
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Marshawn Lloyd was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury on Tuesday. He sprained his ankle during the Week 2 win against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. It will be interesting to see when he will return to game action.
Lloyd had also dealt with hip and hamstring injuries during the offseason. It has been a rough start to his NFL career, but hopefully, he can turn the corner once he comes off of injured reserve. This is not a season-ending injury for Marshawn Lloyd.
This is not as bad of news for him and it felt much worse when running back A.J. Dillon had to go on season-ending injured reserve before the start of the season because of a neck injury. With Lloyd sidelined, Josh Jacobs is going to get the bulk of the carries as if he wasn’t already. Emanuel Wilson is the second running back on the roster and don’t have much depth after that.
Elevated Running Back Chris Brooks From Practice Squad To The Active 53-Man Roster
24-year-old Chris Brooks was elevated to the 53-man roster after the Green Bay Packers put running back Marshawn Lloyd on injured reserve. In his NFL career, Brooks has rushed for 106 yards on 19 carries and zero touchdowns. He has averaged 5.6 yards per catch. Chris Brooks played college football with the BYU Cougars. He also was with the Miami Dolphins in the NFL preseason.
It will be interesting to see if Chris Brooks will see the field for the Packers at some point. Brooks was just on the practice squad for Green Bay. They are very thin at the running back position and another injury to either Josh Jacobs or Emanuel Wilson could see an increased role for Chris Brooks.
