The Green Bay Packers seem to have done it again. After 15 years of Hall of Fame quarterback play from Brett Favre, they experienced 15 years of Hall of Fame quarterback play from Aaron Rodgers. While it is far too early to call Jordan Love a Hall of Fame quarterback, he did have a better first season starting than either of the two who came before him. The Atlanta Falcons took notice of Green Bay’s process and are trying to copy it (they signed Kirk Cousins to a four-year contract and also drafted Michael Penix Jr. in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft).
So far, the process of draft and develop has worked for Green Bay. However, it has also come with the consequence of having to make a massive salary decision. Had Love been average or bad in 2023, there would not be intense talks about his next contract. However, he set the NFL ablaze, especially in the second half of the season. With more and more quarterbacks getting paid $50 million annually, the Packers’ starter is in line for a massive payday.
NFL Analyst Has a Dubious Take on Jordan Love’s Future with the Green Bay Packers

The Packers and Love are actively working on a contract extension. Both parties are confident that a deal will get done before the start of training camp in late July. However, one NFL analyst is not fully predicting that Love will be a Packer beyond this season until his signature is on a new deal.
In a recent article on Bleacher Report, Brad Gagnon lists eight NFL quarterbacks that could be playing for other teams in 2025. He includes Love at the bottom of his list, writing:
“Love isn’t likely going anywhere anytime soon, but until he signs an extension he’s included here. That’s because the 25-year-old breakout star from 2023 is entering a walk year, and it’s important to keep in mind that he’s only shined for a single half-season stretch in his four-year career.
“If he proves that wasn’t a fluke, the Packers will almost definitely find a way to keep him around. But it’s also possible he blows up, in which case anything is on the table.
“That’s assuming said blowup doesn’t transpire after Love inks a new deal between now and the end of the upcoming campaign.”
While Gagnon admits that Love and the Packers are unlikely to part ways, he does point out that the hype surrounding Love is based on the second half of last season. However, Gagnon’s assertion is flawed for one big reason.
Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers Will Not Let Contract Talks Continue Into the NFL Season

The way that Gagnon phrases his discussion on Love makes it sound like he does not think the Packers will sign Love before the season begins. As mentioned previously, both Brian Gutekunst and Love want a deal done before training camp.
How much will Love get paid? That is anyone’s guess, but it would make sense if $50 million is on the low-end of what he is offered. After all, the Detroit Lions are paying Jared Goff $53 million annually on the extension that he inked earlier this offseason.
The notion, though, that Love will not be a Packer in 2025 and beyond is absolutely insane. The Packers went through an roster overhaul and plenty of bad press for years to make it work for Love. He, too, put in a lot of time and work into making sure he was prepared when his turn to start came.
A deal is getting done, and it will be done soon. Love is not going anywhere.
