Green Bay Packers: Matt LaFleur Gives Brutal Assessment Of Jordan Love After ‘Slow Start’ At OTAs

The Green Bay Packers don’t need Jordan Love to be in MVP form in late May, but even so, reports from Tuesday’s OTA practices were troubling for the fourth-year quarterback. Head coach Matt LaFleur discussed where Love was in his press conference following the practice.

According to Rob Demovsky with ESPN, Love completed less than 50 percent of his passes Tuesday. Many attempts touched a defender’s hand. Love looked better inside the ten-yard line, but Love will need to show progress in being able to lead the team there.

Per WSH Media files, LaFleur said Love did some things ok, but he needed to clean things up. LaFleur hinted that Love needed help around him to make good plays. But he understands he needs to be better heading into his fourth season.

The Green Bay Packers need Jordan Love to use his experience

According to Zachary Jacobson with Packer Report, LaFleur said Love has enough prior experience leading the team in OTAs to run the offense effectively:

“I think you gotta be mindful and aware of where you are but at the same time, you can put them in those situations — it’s not like he’s a true rookie. He’s seen a decent amount, especially being able to get the majority of the snaps this time of year the last couple of years,” said LaFleur.

“We’re not necessarily coddling him in any sense of the word. We’re installing our plays and whatever the defense presents, I mean, he’s gotta react. If it gets out of hand one way or another then you can adjust, but I think he’s done a pretty good job up to this point.”

The Packers can’t coddle him this offseason. Love will face the Chicago Bears in three months for their Week 1 matchup. The Bears and the rest of the schedule won’t make things easier for the former first-round pick than the defense he’s seeing in shirts and shorts in May.

Love did some things well, especially in the red zone. But Love, and his teammates, will need to get much more comfortable with LaFleur’s scheme in the next two months. Missing a throw here or there is acceptable, but Love will absolutely have to clean up the idea that underthowing a pass in triple coverage is going to cut in Green Bay come September.
