Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur knows the loss to the San Francisco 49ers will be hard to deal with for Jordan Love. That is why he made sure to issue a huge challenge to his quarterback in order to help him get over the defeat and learn from it.
Love wasn’t his best self in the divisional round showdown, particularly in the second half of the game when he made a number of uncharacteristic passes. His most noteworthy mistake, perhaps, came late in the fourth quarter when his pass to Christian Watson was intercepted by 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw. The massive error basically cost the Packers a chance for the win.
The 25-year-old quarterback finished the contest with 21-of-34 pass completion for 194 yards and two touchdowns against two interceptions. It was a far cry from his brilliant showing in the Wild Card against the Dallas Cowboys when he had a perfect passer rating.
Speaking to reporters postgame, LaFleur had nothing but high praises for Love despite the inconsistent performance the quarterback had. And instead of feeling down for his mistakes, LaFleur shared his hope that Love uses the defeat as motivation to improve himself.
“I think he’s had an outstanding season. I know it didn’t end the way we wanted it to. I couldn’t be more proud of just who he is as a man, first and foremost, as a leader of this team. I know this one’s going to hurt him. I’m sure he’ll be really hard on himself. He’s just got to use it as fuel to continue to get better,” LaFleur shared, per Josh Dubow of USA Today.
Jordan Love’s True Feelings on Green Bay Packers Loss
For what it’s worth, it looks like Jordan Love is planning to do what Matt LaFleur just said. He admitted that losing feels bad and that the sting of the loss will probably linger for some time.
Nonetheless, Love emphasized that he won’t let it discourage him and prevent him from moving forward. He knows what he needs to do, though for now, he just needs time to process it all.
“I think it’ll sting for a while. Watching all the games going forward it will sting just knowing that we had an opportunity to win and we dropped the ball on that one. It’ll sting for a while but we’ll be able to look back on it and see some good things we did,” Love shared.
It’s definitely quite the frustrating way to end the season. The Green Bay Packers were so close but failed in the end. Nonetheless, Love and Co. can certainly hold their heads high despite the defeat. They exceeded expectations and started the post-Aaron Rodgers era on an incredible note. Now, they just need to build from it.
