The Green Bay Packers made the decision to move on from several key veterans over this past offseason. Not only were these veterans important pieces for the team last season, but they also had left their marks on the franchise’s history. Of course, Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL and is now a member of the New York Jets. Randall Cobb, who is ranked in the top 10 of several Packers wide receiver categories, followed him to New York.
One of the most controversial decisions, though, was to let kicker Mason Crosby hit free agency and replace him with rookie Anders Carlson, who was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Crosby not only is the Packers’ all-time leader in points scored, but also most games played and most consecutive games played.
While Carlson has been fairly solid in his rookie campaign, there have been multiple times throughout the preseason and regular season where fans and former Packers players have called for the team to bring Crosby back. The front office, though, has remained dedicated to their youth movement.
For months, Crosby searched for a new team. Though he had multiple tryouts with multiple teams, he did not find a new job until this past week. The Los Angeles Rams signed him after a workout and assigned him to their practice squad.
Former Green Bay Packers Kicker Mason Crosby Will Kick for the Los Angeles Rams This Weekend

Even though he has not been with the Rams for very long, Los Angeles is desperate for help at kicker. Neither Brett Maher nor Lucas Havrisik could kick with any consistency, each making less than 74% of their field goal attempts.
As improbable as it sounds, the Rams are still in the hunt for a NFC wild card spot. If they have any hope to get there, they need all three phases of their game clicking. Due to the inconsistency at kicker, they have decided to elevate Crosby from their practice squad for their game against the Baltimore Ravens this weekend. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network broke the news on social media:
The #Rams have elevated K Mason Crosby from the practice squad to the active roster, a sign he’s preparing to kick on Sunday.

The Rams-Ravens matchup will now feature Crosby and Baltimore kicker Justin Tucker, who is widely considered to be the best kicker in the NFL today and one of the best of all time. Tucker, however, is in the midst of the worst season in his career. He has made 21 of 26 field goal attempts, or 80.8%. This would be, by far, the lowest mark of his career if it stands up.
