There will be many chances for the Green Bay Packers to fix its roster before the start of the 2024 season. General manager Brian Gutekunst has done a very good job building this football team through the draft and sprinkling the rest of the roster through free agency.
He made some trades at the trade deadline last season and at the time, the Green Bay Packers were not a very good football team. Green Bay played better toward the end of the season and there is hope for the future.
They made some necessary changes this offseason and one of the Green Bay Packers’ changes was firing defensive coordinator Joe Barry. Green Bay and other NFL teams will look to make other changes to the roster before the start of the 2024 season.
The Green Bay Packers Could Wind Up Trading For New Orleans Saints Cornerback Marshon Lattimore Before Week 1 Of the 2024 Season
With the Saints missing the playoffs a season ago, there is a chance they could make some other moves before the start of the 2024 season. Marshon Lattimore is under contract for a few more seasons. Sayre Bedinger of lombardiavenue.com thinks it may be possible for the Packers to pull off a trade with the New Orleans Saints for him before the start of the 2024 season.
Bedinger said:
“The one position group that could really be an Achilles heel for the Green Bay Packers this coming season is at cornerback. Needless to say, this will be a relatively cornerback-heavy list of potential trades to happen before Week 1, including the potential of a blockbuster like trading for Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore.
Lattimore has been the subject of trade rumors all throughout the offseason, and with a base salary of just over $1.2 million this season, the Saints have structured Lattimore’s contract to be able to trade him if the opportunity arises.
The Packers would have to pay a premium here because of Lattimore’s contract and age (just 28) but he could be the missing piece for this team.”
This may not even cost the Green Bay Packers a 2025 first-round pick. All they may have to give up is a second or third-round pick.
He is 28 years old. A season ago with the Saints, he recorded 48 tackles, one interception, and eight pass deflections.
They should only consider this trade if Eric Stokes gets hurt during training camp. He is in line to be the starting cornerback this year along with Jaire Alexander. However, if they wanted to pursue Marshon Lattimore anyway, it wouldn’t hurt because they could also use the depth at the position.
