The Green Bay Packers were hoping rookie running back Marshawn Lloyd would play a huge role in the offense this season. Instead, he has missed most of the season because of an injury and went onto injured reserve. The only game he played this season was in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts.
Lloyd was a third-round pick from USC. There were plans for him to be the second running back behind Josh Jacobs. Green Bay also had an injury to A.J. Dillon before the season. Jacobs, Chris Brooks, and Emanuel Wilson have been the running backs who have also appeared in games this season for the Packers.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Marshawn Lloyd Returning To Practice This Week
The Packers will not return to the practice field until Wednesday, but head coach Matt LaFleur always speaks to the media on Mondays. Also, Josh Jacobs met with the media on Monday. Jacobs always makes sure that Lloyd takes a ride with him to practice to keep his head on straight since he has been out for so long. This is so he can also stay focused.
Jacobs said to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
“I’m excited to see him go this week.”
Lloyd will also be designated to return from the injured reserve list this week. It will be interesting to see if he will play against the Chicago Bears on the road this weekend or not.
Week 2 Stats
In Week 2, Marshawn Lloyd rushed for 15 yards on six carries and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 2.5 yards per carry. It will be interesting to see what kind of role he will have in this offense once Lloyd returns from injured reserve.
He was also dealing with some injury issues during the preseason. Hopefully, Lloyd can finally take off and provide some help in the backfield for Josh Jacobs.
