The Green Bay Packers have a few positions that need to be addressed this offseason. While cornerback and defensive tackle are two position groups that Green Bay is known to address early in the draft, it is no secret that wide receiver has become a definite need as well.
As fans are aware, Christian Watson will be out for most of the 2025 NFL season as he recovers from a torn ACL in Week 18. Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks, who were both in their second seasons with the Packers in 2024, had 12.0% and 11.8% drop percentages, respectively.
While the Packers can hope that Reed and Wicks improve in 2025, it does not change the fact that missing Watson, whose speed opened windows for them, needs to be replaced.
Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling Has Been Suggested as a Possible Christian Watson Replacement
The Packers originally selected Watson in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He, along with Romeo Doubs and Samori Toure, were expected to help fill the void left by Davante Adams following his trade to the Las Vegas Raiders.
But what many fans forget is that Adams was not the only wide receiver who left Green Bay following the 2021 season. Marquez Valdes-Scantling (MVS) did too.
And while Adams was (and still is) the better pass catcher, MVS’ speed played a vital role in the offense. Like Watson, teams had to respect his ability to get downfield quickly, which opened up the passing game for other players.
Since Watson will be out for much of next season, Zach Kruse of Packers Wire thinks that Green Bay should look into bringing MVS back on a veteran minimum deal for a year:

Other Packers fans, though, are not so sure.
Green Bay Packers Fans Do Not Want Marquez Valdes-Scantling Back
In four seasons with Green Bay, MVS had drop percentages of 6.8%, 5.4%, 11.1%, and 0.0% respectively. In the year he did not drop any passes, he only played in 11 games.
Since leaving the Packers, MVS won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs, but was released after the 2023 season to save money on the salary cap. He signed with the Buffalo Bills originally, but was released after six games.
After signing with the New Orleans Saints, though, MVS had 17 receptions for 385 yards and four touchdowns in eight games (with a drop percentage of 5.7%).
Fans, though, only remember him for his drops and do not want him back in Green and Gold:

It will be interesting to see what the Packers do at wide receiver this offseason. Undoubtedly, they will be looking at one or two in the NFL Draft, but a good solid veteran is needed in that room.
MVS has won championships and is historically a good playoff wide receiver, but they will need more than just him to fill out that position group.
