There was a chance that Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis would not face his former team with Jordan Love practicing all week. On Saturday night, it was announced that Willis would start the second consecutive game against the Tennessee Titans.
Willis completed 13-of-19 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown and also rushed for 73 yards on six carries and a touchdown in a 30-14 win for Green Bay over Tennessee. With the win, the Packers improved to 2-1 on the season and the Titans dropped to 0-3 on the season.
Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur Believed a Change Of Scenery Helped Malik Willis
There have been many times in sports where one destination has not treated a player well and they need a fresh start somewhere else. In his first two years in the NFL, Willis played for the Tennessee Titans and did not perform well.
In his first two career games started with the Green Bay Packers, he has looked better than any moment he did with the Titans. Head coach Matt LaFleur said to the media:
“A change of scenery can be good for some guys. I cannot articulate the job that he’s done in a short period of time. People can’t fathom that, I promise you.”
Willis has not thrown an interception in the two games he has started for the Packers. LaFleur also added:
“That’s the No. 1 job of the quarterback, take care of the football. He’s done a great job not putting the ball in harm’s way. It’s allowed us to open some things up. 100% it gives everybody more confidence in what you’re doing. Can’t say enough about him, just the job he’s done to get in our offense and be productive.”
Wide receiver Christian Watson has his back and so does the rest of his teammates. The Green Bay Packers wide receiver core has had a different leading receiver in the first three weeks of the season.
Potential Week 4 Start For Jordan Love
There was a chance that Malik Willis was not going to play in Week 3, but Jordan Love may return in Week 4 against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings. With Green Bay winning win its last two games, maybe they will keep Love on the bench but it will depend on how things go.
A lot of people thought that the Packers were finished went Jordan Love was sidelined with a knee injury. Willis did not look good with the Tennessee Titans and there were reasons to worry. However, head coach Matt LaFleur has made Malik Willis into a capable quarterback in the NFL.
