Malik Willis is opening a lot of eyes with his performance on the field as a temporary starter for the Green Bay Packers. Willis had not seen a lot of action during his time with the Tennessee Titans, but with the Packers, he already has played in three games, including a couple of starts, in just the first three weeks of the 2024 NFL regular season.
ESPN’s Mina Kimes impressed with Gren Bay Packers QB Malik Willis’ improvement
Among those impressed with what they have seen from Willis, particularly during the Packers’ Week 3 30-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans on the road was no other than Mina Kimes of ESPN.
“So congratulations to you, Malik,” Kimes said during a recent episode of The Mina Kimes Show. “I’m dead serious. Like all it takes is two games like this. But what he did in this last game, I thought was really impressive, right? Comes out. And I thought the first play where he had Jayden Reed on the crosser, that was like heavily schemed up, brilliant, Matt LaFleur. I’m watching that. He throws the ball well, but I love that they came out throwing, confusing them with the action in the backfield.”
Kimes also loved the improvement she’s seeing from Willis, who passed for 202 passing yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 13/19 completions against the Titans in addition to his rushing touchdown and 73 yards on the ground.
“And then he sees man coverage and he’s like, F it, I’m throwing it to Christian Watson,” Kimes continued.
“That’s just a throw. That’s just a good throw. That’s just a quarterback who thinks he can make that throw. And I watched that and I thought, ‘Yes, good for you, Malik’. Like that is, that is all you and I’m not going to say he’s going to be a starter in this league. I’m not going to say he’s a different quarterback, but he does already look vastly improved and deserves a ton of credit for doing that.”
As mentioned by Kimes, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur deserves so much credit as well for the way he’s steering Green Bay’s boat during this tricky part of the season, as his team navigates the schedule without the injured Jordan Love.
Willis was traded by the Titans to the Packers last August in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2025.
