To say that the Green Bay Packers are performing better than expected without their starting quarterback is nothing short of an understatement.
They were struck with a dilemma early on in the season when they lost Jordan Love to injury in the first game of the season. With Malik Willis taking over the role under center, many wondered if the Packers would be able to handle the coming weeks.
However, Matt LaFleur proved why he’s the man the Packers trust to lead the team. Thanks to his leadership, Green Bay is coming into Week 4 with a solid 2-1 record thanks to solid play from Willis and the rest of the offense.
One analyst believes that the work LaFleur and Willis has done on the offensive side of things is instrumental to their team’s on-field successes.
Analyst praises Matt laFleur for his work with Malik Willis to lead the Green Bay Packers without Jordan Love
Sports Illustrated’s Bill Huber showered praise for LaFleur with his ability to lead without his preferred QB:
LaFleur put together a masterful game plan to beat Indianapolis. Everyone at Lambeau Field knew the Packers were going to run the ball, but it didn’t matter. The Packers did enough in the first half to win the game.
Given the Packers’ success against the Colts, everyone in Nashville knew what was coming, too. However, while the Titans were zigging, LaFleur was zagging.
However, LaFleur isn’t one to take all of the credit for himself. He also gave his QB2 his flowers for doing his best in the situation:
“I just cannot articulate the job that he’s done in this short period of time,” LaFleur said after Sunday’s win. “People can’t fathom it. I promise you, you guys don’t get it. I know you think you got it, but you don’t get it. What he’s been able to do, I’ve never seen something like this. Hats off to him, hats off to everybody around him, guys rallying, having his back.”
Willis had a terrific outing against his former team, passing for 202 yards and two touchdowns. He didn’t make any critical mistakes, not throwing any picks in the process.
Many Green Bay Packers fans would rather have Love standing under center. However, they’re more than happy that they have a terrific backup and a brilliant head coach leading the line for the team.
