The Green Bay Packers have several substantial roster decisions that they need to make heading into the 2025 NFL season. Undoubtedly, this will include cutting players that have failed to live up to the expectations the Packers had for them. One of these players, by multiple accounts, is two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander, who has played just half of Green Bay’s regular season games over the last four seasons.
But while Alexander’s probable release is a culmination of years worth of drama, there are other players who have not been with Green Bay as long and are not making nearly as much money that could be cut too. That being said, two names that have recently been floated as cut candidates almost certainly are not in any danger of losing their jobs with the Packers.
The Green Bay Packers Are Predicted to Cut Romeo Doubs and Luke Musgrave After Training Camp

In a recent article published by Clutch Points, Jaren Kawanda suggests that the Packers will cut three big-name players ahead of or after training camp this year: Alexander, tight end Luke Musgrave, and wide receiver Romeo Doubs.
Of Musgrave, Kawanda wrote:
“Entering his third year, Musgrave is now a distant second option behind Kraft. He is not enough of an asset as a blocker to warrant more snaps, further limiting his role. Still on his rookie contract, Musgrave is not a big hit to the Packers’ cap but brings almost no additional value to the team, making him a cut candidate in the 2025 NFL offseason. He could be one of the team’s final training camp releases in the fall.”
And of Doubs, he penned:
“The way Doubs has conducted himself over the past two seasons has not yet reached an Antonio Brown level of irritability. Still, his lack of production is insufficient to warrant it. General managers do not typically let personal opinions affect roster decisions, but Gutekunst would be well within his rights to rid himself of Doubs in the offseason.”
While one can easily see why the Packers would move on from Alexander, the notion that they would part with either Doubs or Musgrave is ridiculous.
It is true that Musgrave has battled injuries ever since his NFL career began. He certainly has not yet been able to stay on the field long enough for the Packers to really know what they have with him.
But releasing a second round pick after just two seasons, albeit injury-plagued seasons, is not the way the Packers do business. This is especially true considering the fact that releasing Musgrave would create a whole new roster hole that Green Bay would need to address.
As for Doubs, if the Packers were not going to move on from Alexander after his antics in 2023, they are not going to do so with Doubs after 2024, especially since he only has one year remaining on his rookie contract. With Christian Watson out for most of 2025 already, ditching a wide receiver that Jordan Love already trusts in Doubs seems like a less than intelligent move.
There is this, too: both Doubs and Musgrave are still on their rookie deals. They do not account for much of Green Bay’s salary cap. While neither is guaranteed to get a second contract at this point, they almost certainly will be able to play out their first.
