With the Green Bay Packers no longer in Super Bowl contention after getting eliminated from the NFL playoffs by the San Francisco 49ers, fans of the team can turn their attention to the 2024 NFL Draft. The Packers hold the No. 25 pick in the first round, which can be used to shore up the offense or the defense. One speculation that has floated with regard to that pick comes from Jordan Reid of ESPN, who brought up the names of Alabama Crimson Tide defensive backs Terrion Arnold and Kool-Aid McKinstry.
The emergence of quarterback Jordan Love and the Packers’ young receivers has made their upcoming draft plan flexible. But after trading away Rasul Douglas and with question marks on whether or not Jaire Alexander will be on the roster next season, the cornerback room in Green Bay is very thin. Alabama CBs Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold would each make sense.
Green Bay Packers Could Look To Use 25th Pick on Defensive Weapon
Arnold and McKinstry are two of the highest-rated NFL prospects on many mock draft boards, including that of Pro Football Focus, which has them at No. 16 and No. 19 overall, respectively.
Of course, the 2024 NFL Draft will not take place until late April, and by then, the Green Bay Packers likely have a new defensive coordinator as successor to the recently fired Joe Barry. That DC will have a big say on what kind of defensive assets the team will look to acquire via the draft but the Packers can still be expected to take a look at Arnold and McKinstry, especially if Jaire Alexander parts ways with the team in the offseason. There is also the case with Darnell Savage, who is another potential departure from the Packers’ secondary.
