The Green Bay Packers have listed Jordan Love as questionable for their Week 2 matchup this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, but the expectation largely remains that Malik Willis will be starting for that contest and Sean Clifford will be the QB2 in the meantime.
Green Bay Packers’ Matt LaFleur believes in Sean Clifford
There is a lot of unknown with regard to Willis, who hasn’t even been with the Packers for a month. A shaky showing under center for Willis could lead to a Clifford appearance against the Colts. Either way, Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur is confident that Clifford will be prepared whenever his number gets called.
Via Dominique Yates of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
“He’ll be ready to roll,” LaFleur said if Clifford needed to play. “He’s had significant time here. Although, typically, he didn’t get as many reps as he’d like, but I have complete confidence that he’s had enough reps that he can go out there and perform.”
Love’s knee injury has put the Packers in a tough position so early in the 2024 NFL regular season. Willis has to step up in lieu of Love, but expecting a quarterback with very little experience as a starter in the league and someone who’s also still familiarizing himself with Green Bay’s playbook to perform well right away could be too much.
Willis, who was acquired by the Packers through a swap with the Tennessee Titans ahead of the 2024 season, had 11 NFL appearances (three starts) before he briefly saw action in Week 1’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Clifford has zero experience as a starter, but at least he’s been with the Packers since 2023 when he appeared in two games.
