The Green Bay Packers have yet to find a Superbowl in the Matt Lafleur era, though in just 5 seasons Lafleur has picked up 3 postseason wins along with a 56-27 regular season record. Lafleur has established himself as a premier head coach after a hot start to his head coaching career with Aaron Rodgers and his impressive first season in the Jordan Love era.
Despite finding an elite level of success in his first five years of NFL head coaching, the doubt has to remain due to the lack of a Superbowl ring in his short career. But it is clear that Matt Lafleur is not a bad coach by any metric and it is difficult to find someone who thinks he is a bad coach, but it is not impossible.
Fantasy Sports Writer Draws Attention For Hot Take About Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt Lafleur

The social media platform formerly known as Twitter is a breeding ground for sports takes, the good and the bad. ESPN commentator Mina Kimes started a dialogue centered around head coach rankings, particularly with Green Bay Packers head coach Matt Lafleur., this sparked an opportunity for brash takes about the young head coach.
After this talk was opened, one opinion caught fire quickly, eventually garnering over 395k impressions on twitter.
LaFluer is the coach I have the least conviction on in the entire league.
I’m not at all convinced he’s good, let alone great, and I think there’s a real chance he’s terrible.
But I just don’t feel like we know yet, even though he’s now the 7th-longest tenured coach. https://t.co/hYjjNrVcRe

The fantasy sports writer for CBS Sports Alex Rikleen put his hat into the ring with a harsh judgement of Matt Lafleur. He claimed that “we just don’t know yet” after a successful start to his career, seemingly ignoring 5 years of different types of success. The claim that “there’s a real chance he’s terrible” seemed to have made a lot of people red in disagreement.
5 seasons into his career and has the 2nd highest winning % (.675) of any active coach in the NFL and you think he might be terrible?! 🙄
I think 5 seasons is a large enough sample size to take “terrible” off the table.— @MKE_Yusuf May 22, 2024
Imagine admitting to everyone that you dont know ball.

I think after last season he has shown at the VERY least he isnt terrible. Easily top ten HC in the league. strange take..sounds personal
— Mindset Trader (@MindsetTrad3r) May 22, 2024
The tweets quickly turned disrespectful (unsurprisingly) as well as unproductive, though Rikleen attempted to rationalize his take.
Plenty of people making the case for why he might be good, so here’s the why he might be bad:
We’ve seen meh coaches carried by great QB play a million times. It literally happened to LaFluer’s predecessor!
I’m still *open* to the idea he’s holding them back more than helping.
— Alex Rikleen (@Rikleen) May 22, 2024
Though his rationale leaves plenty of room to grow, implying that the Green Bay Packers could have been better without Lafleur last year is stunning, considering he led the youngest team ever to win a playoff game to a campaign four points short of an NFC championship appearance. It is interesting to see how some voices in sports see Matt Lafleur as a failure, though indicative of the response given to Alex Rikleen, it is certainly a hot take.
