Over the last two years, there have been many former Green Bay Packers players that have gone to play for the New York Jets. Of course, this is because of the trade that sent Aaron Rodgers from Green Bay to New York. In the history of both franchises, 73 NFL players have played for both the Packers and the Jets. 11 of them, or 15%, have come in the last two years.
And now it appears New York, who has already interviewed Green Bay executive Jon-Eric Sullivan for their open general manager job, are considering a member of Matt LaFleur‘s staff for their head coach opening.
The New York Jets Have Requested to Interview Green Bay Packers Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley
Earlier this week, it was reported that the Chicago Bears had requested permission to interview Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich for their open head coaching job. They have also interviewed former Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy.
Now, it is being reported that the Jets have requested permission to interview Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley:
Per source, the Jets have requested to interview Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley for their HC job. The Jersey native has four years of head coaching experience, at Boston College (2020-23), and led a Top 5 unit this year.
Looks like that one happens end of this week.

It is easy to see why New York would be interested in Hafley. According to Packers Wire, Hafley improved Green Bay’s defense in virtually every statistical category possible in just one year:

Yards per play: Packers improved from 20th to 5th
DVOA: Packers improved from 27th to 7th
EPA/play: Packers improved from 24th to 4th

Average net yards/attempt: Packers improved from 25th to 6th

Of course, fans are rather fond of Hafley and the job he has done. They also find it hilarious that the Jets keep on coming back to the Packers for players, coaches, and executives.
Green Bay Packers Fans React to the New York Jets Wanting to Interview Jeff Hafley
One has to admit, the whole Jets-Packers thing is getting a bit weird and ridiculous:

Well tell the #Jets to keep their greasy, dirty, stinky paws off our coordinator.
Quit trying to be Green Bay.

Have the jets seen any packer they dont like?

I don’t think he gets a job in this cycle, but next..? Enjoy him while you can. https://t.co/W768TODon3

Hopefully he does not get or take the job. He is the best defensive coordinator the Packers have had in a very long time.
