The Green Bay Packers, as well as most of the NFC North, has seen some changes to their coaching staff made already ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich was fired and replaced with former New England Patriots defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington. Quarterbacks coach Tom Clements retired and is being replaced by former NFL quarterback Sean Mannion, who was an assistant on Matt LaFleur‘s staff last year.
Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich is still on staff, but is currently interviewing for the same position with the Houston Texans. Should he get the job, it would be an opportunity for him to call offensive plays, something he cannot do in Green Bay because of LaFleur. If Stenavich leaves, it is widely believed that Luke Getsy, who was recently hired as a senior offensive assistant, would become the next offensive coordinator.
The Green Bay Packers Have Not Had as Significant Coaching Changes as the Chicago Bears or Detroit Lions
While the Packers have been hiring new position coaches, the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions have had to replace significant members of their respective staffs. The Bears, of course, fired Matt Eberflus midseason last year and were in need of a head coach. They found one in Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who has brought his own group of coaches to Chicago with him.
Additionally, the Lions saw their defensive coordinator, Aaron Glenn, take the head coaching job with the New York Jets. Like Johnson, he brought some coaching talent with him. He also hired former Packers special teams ace Chris Banjo as his special teams coordinator.
On Saturday, Chicago announced another major hire, one that will certainly be one of their best moves of the offseason.
The Chicago Bears Hired 2-Time Super Bowl Champion Eric Bieniemy as Their Running Backs Coach
On Saturday, it was reported that the Bears have hired two-time Super Bowl winning coach Eric Bieniemy as their running backs coach. Bieniemy spent the 2024 season with UCLA as their offensive coordinator and assistant head coach:
An NFL return: Eric Bieniemy has agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears to be their running backs coach, source tells @NFLonCBS. A 2-time Super Bowl champ with the Chiefs, Bieniemy gives Ben Johnson’s offensive staff a veteran, championship presence.

While most football fans remember Bieniemy as the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs that won two Super Bowls, many forget that he started his coaching career as a running backs coach.
His first NFL coaching job was in such a position for the Minnesota Vikings from 2006-2010. In his final year with Minnesota, he was also their assistant head coach.
After spending two seasons at Colorado as their offensive coordinator from 2011-2012, he returned to the NFL as the Chiefs running backs coach. He held that role from 2013-2017 before being promoted to offensive coordinator.
Bieniemy left Kansas City for the Washington Commanders in 2023, but last just one season.
