The Green Bay Packers team is a young collection of talent. Talent that appears to be sprouting at the right time. While a tougher-than-expected playoff path stands before the completion of the regular season, emerging talent has stepped up amid absences. One of the players who came up from the practice squad is sure to keep his connections with his fellow members who are also looking to make their mark.
The NFL is a brotherhood. In one form or another, everyone embraces the collective struggle of playing on Sundays. While for some the focus is on the upcoming opponent, others are fighting for their NFL lives. This is why it initially caught some off guard when a now consistent contributor emerged from the p-squad portion of the locker room. A move that may initially seem odd, but only makes sense if you take a moment to understand how he got here.
Green Bay Packers Gone But Not Forgotten
Bo Melton could be seen taking residence with the reserve players of the Green Bay Packers. A late consistent active roster member, he offered the following explanation as to why he maintains his locker placement.
Those are my guys back there. If I don’t hang with them they won’t claim me anymore.
This shows insight. Not only into Melton as a person, but it also shows how close the comradery is on this team. As young, developing players continue to prove their worth it appears the collective effort of trying to make an impact on the field is sticking with Melton.
No one would have noticed, and even if they did, cared, if Melton had elected to be with other starting wideouts or near his quarterback. It is just one of those things that when you do notice, it speaks well of him and makes you see Melton in yet another gratifying light.
Green Bay Packers Early Practice Squad Struggles
For Melton, his latest success in the NFL has been a journey.
Coming from the Seattle Seahawks practice squad as a later-round draft pick, he was acquired by the Green Bay Packers this past offseason. With a flood of injuries on offense, Melton has been able to earn his keep on the team, while waiting for his opportunity to showcase himself on the field. A chance that most notably happened in the most recent game against the Minnesota Vikings.
And while the performance of 105 yards and a touchdown was impressive, it doesn’t seem to have led him to forget the struggle to get this this point. All year long he has patiently waited, grinding to stay a part of this team, and it is now paying off.
Looking to now not only secure a playoff-clinching win, Melton will also be hoping to build off of his big game this past Sunday. A win means the postseason. And another big day would mean added security going into next year.
Either way, it looks as if Melton will be keeping in close contact with the fellow players who he not only competed with but who likely first saw his breakout potential throughout the early stages of camp.
