Back when Mike Holmgren was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers, it was not uncommon for his assistant coaches to be hired by other teams as head coaches. Andy Reid, Jon Gruden Steve Mariucci, Dick Jauron, Marty Mornhinweg, Jim Zorn, Ray Rhodes, and Mike Sherman were all NFL head coaches that served on Holmgren’s staff at one time or another.
Since Holmgren left Green Bay, Packers head coaches have not had any noteworthy coaching trees. Joe Philbin, who was on Sherman’s and Mike McCarthy‘s staff, was eventually hired as head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Ben McAdoo, who served on McCarthy’s staff, was hired as the head coach of the New York Giants.
Matt LaFleur has had one assistant hired as a head coach, Nathaniel Hackett, though his tenure with the Denver Broncos did not last a whole season.
The Chicago Bears Want to Interview Green Bay Packers OC Adam Stenavich for Their Head Coach Position
The Chicago Bears fired their head coach, Matt Eberflus, midway through the 2024 NFL season. Now that their season is over, they have been interviewing candidates to take over the job in 2025. While several have already interviewed, they have not yet reached a decision, nor have they interviewed all the candidates that they want to.
And according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich is one of the coaches they want to interview. However, as he is a member of Matt LaFleur’s staff in Green Bay, the Bears have had to request permission to speak to him:
An in-division request: Bears requested a head coach interview with Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich, per source.

Stenavich, a native of Marshfield, Wisconsin, was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2022 when Hackett left for the Broncos. He had previously served as Green Bay’s offensive line coach and run game coordinator.
Adam Stenavich Would Not Be the First Green Bay Packers Coach to Be Hired by the Bears
Most recently, former Packers quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy was hired away from Green Bay to work for the Bears. He served as Chicago’s offensive coordinator in 2022 and 2023.
Of course, Getsy was not long for Chicago as he was fired after 2023. He was then hired as the offensive coordinator of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024, but did not make it through the season.
LaFleur brought Getsy back to the Packers as a defensive consultant in the second half of the season.
